About the role
24 Hour Recovery Driver — Merseyside and North West motorway network. Self-employed profit-share role, not a wage. You keep 35% of every recovery KJ Recoveries routes to you — a higher share because this is out-of-hours, weather-exposed, safety-critical work. You'll cover accident recovery, breakdown, jump-starts, misfuels, wheel-swap call-outs, and insurance-account jobs for KJ's motor and roadside partners. Most jobs are motorway or A-road recoveries; some are urban breakdowns. Nights and weekends are a real part of the rota. Jobs are dispatched via the KJ portal with the vehicle, location (what3words / postcode), insurance reference and destination confirmed. Tickets vary (£90 basic recovery up to £600+ long-distance / heavy). Suits an experienced recovery driver with your own rig (spec-lift / flat-bed) or willing to drive KJ partner rigs on your own O-licence arrangement. Not for someone without recovery experience on live carriageway — this is high-hazard work.
Responsibilities
- Attend accident and breakdown jobs safely on live carriageway
- Load, secure and transport vehicles to insurer or customer destinations
- Jump-start, tyre-swap and misfuel drain roadside where scoped
- Follow Highways England / National Highways procedures and safe-stop protocols
- Handle insurance customer paperwork per the KJ process
- Photo-document scene, load and drop-off in the KJ portal
- Cover the 24/7 rota fairly across the team
Requirements
- C1 (or C) driving licence appropriate to the rig; CE for larger
- Driver CPC (where applicable) — current
- Digital tacho card
- Own rig OR agreement to drive on the KJ partner O-licence
- Right to work in the UK
- Public liability insurance
- Smartphone for the KJ portal
- Comfortable with night and weekend rota
How working with KJ actually works
From apply to first paid job — four honest steps
- 1
Apply in 60 secs
One tap on this page. No CV wall, no cover letter. Just your name, trade and coverage area.
- 2
Sign your KJ contract
Plain-English self-employed profit-share agreement — 25–50% of job value depending on the role. E-signed. No tie-in, no exclusivity trap.
- 3
Log in to the KJ Portal
See the jobs allocated to you: address, scope, customer notes, agreed price. Accept the ones you want, decline the ones you don't.
- 4
Do the work, get paid your share
Complete the job, mark it done in the portal. KJ invoices the customer. Your share lands on the regular payment cycle — no chasing, no unpaid quotes.
The KJ Portal is rolling out through 2026 — until then, early hires are onboarded and dispatched directly by the KJ ops team. Same profit-share, same transparency.
Why KJ, not a company job
A plumber does 3–4 jobs a day; a surveyor 2–4; a solicitor a handful of matters. The client pays hundreds — often thousands. You take home a fraction. The company keeps the rest.
