About the role
Commercial Plumber — Greater London. Self-employed profit-share role, not a wage. On this role you keep 35% of every job KJ Plumbers routes to you — one of the higher share rates in the group because commercial tickets and repeat-account value carry more weight per visit. You'll be sent to offices, retail units, restaurants, gyms and light industrial premises across the M25. The work is a mix of planned PPM (WC block refurbs, tap/valve replacement programmes, riser work, mains isolation for building works) and reactive (burst pipes, blocked mains, failed pump sets, cylinder issues, out-of-hours emergencies for KJ contract accounts). Typical week is a mix of daytime planned and rota'd out-of-hours cover, with jobs dispatched to the KJ portal to a RAMS-ready spec — you turn up knowing scope, access, contact and price. Tickets on this role are meaningfully higher than domestic (£350–£4,000+), so on a 35% share the calculator above shows what a realistic week clears. Suits a commercial-experienced plumber comfortable with facilities managers, permits to work, RAMS and building access protocols. Not for domestic-only plumbers — the domestic pipeline sits with the KJ Domestic Plumber role.
Responsibilities
- Complete planned PPM visits on commercial WCs, kitchens, plant rooms and risers
- Respond to reactive commercial leaks, blockages and failed pump/booster sets
- Isolate mains safely and coordinate with building management under permit-to-work
- Install and swap commercial WCs, urinals (including flush controls), sensor taps and TMVs
- Work to supplied RAMS and site-specific access procedures
- Cover the KJ out-of-hours emergency rota on rotation
- Photo-document work and update job status live in the KJ portal for the account manager
- Feed back scope changes so KJ can re-price with the customer before extra work goes ahead
Requirements
- Time-served commercial plumbing experience (offices, retail, hospitality, light industrial)
- Own van and full commercial toolset (including pump, wet-vac, cordless pipe-freezing kit ideal)
- Comfortable working to RAMS, permits to work and site inductions
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
- Public liability insurance to £5m (or willingness to arrange to that level)
- Willingness to join the out-of-hours rota
- Smartphone for the KJ portal
How working with KJ actually works
From apply to first paid job — four honest steps
- 1
Apply in 60 secs
One tap on this page. No CV wall, no cover letter. Just your name, trade and coverage area.
- 2
Sign your KJ contract
Plain-English self-employed profit-share agreement — 25–50% of job value depending on the role. E-signed. No tie-in, no exclusivity trap.
- 3
Log in to the KJ Portal
See the jobs allocated to you: address, scope, customer notes, agreed price. Accept the ones you want, decline the ones you don't.
- 4
Do the work, get paid your share
Complete the job, mark it done in the portal. KJ invoices the customer. Your share lands on the regular payment cycle — no chasing, no unpaid quotes.
The KJ Portal is rolling out through 2026 — until then, early hires are onboarded and dispatched directly by the KJ ops team. Same profit-share, same transparency.
Why KJ, not a company job
A plumber does 3–4 jobs a day; a surveyor 2–4; a solicitor a handful of matters. The client pays hundreds — often thousands. You take home a fraction. The company keeps the rest.
