About the role

Mobility Installer — Coventry and West Midlands. Self-employed profit-share role, not a wage. You keep 25% of every install KJ Mobility routes to you. We handle the customer assessment, product spec and pricing (much of it through OT referrals and local authority grants); you turn up to a priced install with the product on site. You'll be sent to straight-rail and curved-rail stairlift installs, grab-rail and half-step installs, wheelchair ramps, wet-room and level-access shower adaptations (coordinating with KJ plumber/tiler), ceiling hoists and through-floor lift assist visits. Typical install is 2–6 hours; wet-room adaptations run 2–4 days across trades. Jobs are dispatched via the KJ portal with the OT/customer notes, product spec, delivery confirmation and any safeguarding notes flagged. Tickets vary widely (£350 for grab rails up to £5,000+ for a curved stairlift). Suits an experienced mobility installer, or a competent joiner/electrician cross-trained on stairlifts, with the empathy to work in vulnerable adults' homes. Enhanced DBS required.

Responsibilities

  • Install straight and curved stairlifts to manufacturer spec
  • Fit grab rails, half-steps, ramps and threshold ramps
  • Assist on wet-room adaptations (working with KJ plumber and tiler)
  • Commission ceiling hoists and hand over to the customer / carer
  • Complete manufacturer commissioning paperwork and warranty registration
  • Explain the equipment clearly to older or vulnerable customers and their family
  • Photo-document each install in the KJ portal
  • Flag safeguarding concerns back to KJ per the safeguarding protocol

Requirements

  • Time-served mobility installer, or experienced joiner/electrician with stairlift training
  • Own van and full installation toolkit
  • Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS (Adult Workforce) — KJ can support the application
  • Public liability insurance
  • Smartphone for the KJ portal
  • Empathetic, unhurried manner with vulnerable customers

How working with KJ actually works

From apply to first paid job — four honest steps

  1. 1

    Apply in 60 secs

One tap on this page. No CV wall, no cover letter. Just your name, trade and coverage area.

  2. 2

    Sign your KJ contract

Plain-English self-employed profit-share agreement — 25–50% of job value depending on the role. E-signed. No tie-in, no exclusivity trap.

  3. 3

Log in to the KJ Portal

See the jobs allocated to you: address, scope, customer notes, agreed price. Accept the ones you want, decline the ones you don't.

  4. 4

Do the work, get paid your share

Complete the job, mark it done in the portal. KJ invoices the customer. Your share lands on the regular payment cycle — no chasing, no unpaid quotes.

The KJ Portal is rolling out through 2026 — until then, early hires are onboarded and dispatched directly by the KJ ops team. Same profit-share, same transparency.

Why KJ, not a company job

A plumber does 3–4 jobs a day; a surveyor 2–4; a solicitor a handful of matters. The client pays hundreds — often thousands. You take home a fraction. The company keeps the rest.
