About the role
Heating Engineer — Leeds and West Yorkshire. Self-employed profit-share role, not a wage. You keep 30% of every job KJ Heating routes to you. We generate the demand and price the job; you turn up to a fully packaged install with the boiler, filter, controls and any cylinder already delivered to site. You'll be sent to combi and system boiler installs, unvented cylinder installs and swaps, full system upgrades (rads, TRVs, controls), power flushes, smart-control retrofits (Hive, Nest, tado), and complex fault-finding on existing systems. Typical install is 1–2 days; larger heat-loss upgrades run 3–4 days. Jobs are dispatched via the KJ portal with the heat-loss calc, kit list, delivery slot and customer contact confirmed. Tickets are meaningful (£2,200–£6,500+), so on a 30% share the calculator above shows what a booked week clears. Suits a Gas Safe engineer with unvented ticket, own van and tools. Not for gas-cooker-only installers — this role is boiler + system depth.
Responsibilities
- Install combi and system boilers with primary filter, condensate route and Benchmark commissioning
- Install and swap unvented hot water cylinders
- Complete full heating system upgrades (rads, TRVs, zone valves, smart controls)
- Power-flush systems and diagnose sludge / airlock / circulation faults
- Install smart heating controls and hand over the app to the customer
- Fault-find on complex system boilers, cylinders and controls
- Lodge Gas Safe and unvented notifications through the KJ portal
- Photo-document each stage for QA and manufacturer warranty
Requirements
- Current Gas Safe registration in your own name
- ACS: CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1
- Unvented Hot Water (G3) — current
- Own van and full heating-engineer toolkit including calibrated flue gas analyser
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
- Public liability insurance to £5m
- Smartphone for the KJ portal
How working with KJ actually works
From apply to first paid job — four honest steps
- 1
Apply in 60 secs
One tap on this page. No CV wall, no cover letter. Just your name, trade and coverage area.
- 2
Sign your KJ contract
Plain-English self-employed profit-share agreement — 25–50% of job value depending on the role. E-signed. No tie-in, no exclusivity trap.
- 3
Log in to the KJ Portal
See the jobs allocated to you: address, scope, customer notes, agreed price. Accept the ones you want, decline the ones you don't.
- 4
Do the work, get paid your share
Complete the job, mark it done in the portal. KJ invoices the customer. Your share lands on the regular payment cycle — no chasing, no unpaid quotes.
The KJ Portal is rolling out through 2026 — until then, early hires are onboarded and dispatched directly by the KJ ops team. Same profit-share, same transparency.
Why KJ, not a company job
A plumber does 3–4 jobs a day; a surveyor 2–4; a solicitor a handful of matters. The client pays hundreds — often thousands. You take home a fraction. The company keeps the rest.
