About the role
Healthcare Assistant — Greater Manchester. Self-employed profit-share role, not a wage. You keep 30% of every shift KJ Medical routes to you. We hold the partner-clinic contracts; you pick the shifts and community rounds that fit your week. You'll cover clinical HCA work in KJ partner settings: GP practice cover, community clinic support, phlebotomy where trained, dressings, observations, ECG lead placement, chaperoning, and stock/consumables prep. Some work is clinic-based; some is community visits with a nurse. Shifts are dispatched via the KJ portal with the site, clinical lead contact, uniform and shift times. Ticket per shift depends on setting and skills carried (phlebotomy trained pays more). See the calculator above for realistic weekly ranges on 30%. Suits an experienced HCA with the Care Certificate and clinical exposure. Not for anyone without a current DBS or without recent clinical experience — patient safety is non-negotiable.
Responsibilities
- Take patient observations (BP, temp, sats, pulse, resp) accurately
- Draw bloods (venepuncture) where trained and signed off
- Assist with dressings, wound checks and simple treatment room work
- Set up rooms, sterile fields and consumables ahead of clinics
- Chaperone clinicians during examinations per NHS guidance
- Update patient records in the practice / clinic system per site policy
- Follow infection control, safeguarding and consent protocols
- Cover community visits with the KJ community nurse where scoped
Requirements
- Care Certificate — completed
- Recent clinical HCA experience (GP practice, community, ward or clinic)
- Enhanced DBS (Adult / Child Workforce as appropriate) — current
- Phlebotomy competency (with sign-off) desirable
- Right to work in the UK
- Public liability / medical malpractice insurance (KJ can point to a preferred broker)
- Smartphone for the KJ portal
How working with KJ actually works
From apply to first paid job — four honest steps
- 1
Apply in 60 secs
One tap on this page. No CV wall, no cover letter. Just your name, trade and coverage area.
- 2
Sign your KJ contract
Plain-English self-employed profit-share agreement — 25–50% of job value depending on the role. E-signed. No tie-in, no exclusivity trap.
- 3
Log in to the KJ Portal
See the jobs allocated to you: address, scope, customer notes, agreed price. Accept the ones you want, decline the ones you don't.
- 4
Do the work, get paid your share
Complete the job, mark it done in the portal. KJ invoices the customer. Your share lands on the regular payment cycle — no chasing, no unpaid quotes.
The KJ Portal is rolling out through 2026 — until then, early hires are onboarded and dispatched directly by the KJ ops team. Same profit-share, same transparency.
Why KJ, not a company job
A plumber does 3–4 jobs a day; a surveyor 2–4; a solicitor a handful of matters. The client pays hundreds — often thousands. You take home a fraction. The company keeps the rest.
