About the role
Gas Engineer — Greater Glasgow. Self-employed profit-share role, not a wage. You keep 25% of every job KJ Heating routes to you. We generate the demand and price the job with the customer; you turn up to a priced, agreed visit. You'll be sent to boiler swaps (combi and system), annual services, breakdown call-outs, cooker and hob installs and disconnections, gas safety inspections (landlord CP12s), and warranty follow-ups on KJ-installed boilers. Emergency call-outs are optional but paid at the higher rota rate. Typical day is 3–4 domestic jobs within a 25-minute drive of your base, dispatched via the KJ portal the night before with live updates on the day. Tickets range from around £90 for a CP12 up to £3,500+ for a full boiler + system upgrade. Suits a Gas Safe registered engineer with own van and tools who wants a steady flow of priced work. Not for anyone without a current Gas Safe registration — this is non-negotiable for the role.
Responsibilities
- Install combi and system boilers to Benchmark and manufacturer spec
- Service, diagnose and repair domestic boilers, cylinders and warm-air units
- Complete landlord CP12 gas safety inspections
- Install and disconnect gas cookers and hobs
- Power-flush and clean systems as scoped
- Handle warranty follow-ups on KJ-installed units
- Photo-document work in the KJ portal and lodge Gas Safe notifications
- Cover the optional emergency rota where you want the extra tickets
Requirements
- Current Gas Safe registration in your own name
- ACS certifications: CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1 (HTR1 desirable)
- Own van and full gas engineering toolkit including analyser (calibrated)
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
- Public liability insurance to £5m
- Smartphone for the KJ portal
How working with KJ actually works
From apply to first paid job — four honest steps
- 1
Apply in 60 secs
One tap on this page. No CV wall, no cover letter. Just your name, trade and coverage area.
- 2
Sign your KJ contract
Plain-English self-employed profit-share agreement — 25–50% of job value depending on the role. E-signed. No tie-in, no exclusivity trap.
- 3
Log in to the KJ Portal
See the jobs allocated to you: address, scope, customer notes, agreed price. Accept the ones you want, decline the ones you don't.
- 4
Do the work, get paid your share
Complete the job, mark it done in the portal. KJ invoices the customer. Your share lands on the regular payment cycle — no chasing, no unpaid quotes.
The KJ Portal is rolling out through 2026 — until then, early hires are onboarded and dispatched directly by the KJ ops team. Same profit-share, same transparency.
Why KJ, not a company job
A plumber does 3–4 jobs a day; a surveyor 2–4; a solicitor a handful of matters. The client pays hundreds — often thousands. You take home a fraction. The company keeps the rest.
