About the role
Block Paving Installer — Nottingham and East Midlands. Self-employed profit-share role, not a wage. You keep 30% of every driveway or patio KJ Driveways routes to you. We survey and price with the homeowner; you receive a fully spec'd job (m², block product, edge detail, drainage) with materials delivered to site. You'll be sent to block paving driveways, patios, path replacements, edge and step re-lays, and some resin overlay finishes. Typical job is 3–5 days on site; some larger driveways run into a second week with a labourer. Jobs are dispatched via the KJ portal with the survey drawing, block schedule, kerb/edge detail, delivery slot and any drainage tie-in confirmed. Tickets are meaningful (£3,500–£12,000+), so on a 30% share the calculator above shows what a realistic booked month looks like. Suits an experienced block paving installer with own plant (mini digger optional, plate compactor essential) and van/trailer. Not for someone without groundwork experience — this is real prep and finish, not surface-lay.
Responsibilities
- Excavate to correct depth, install permeable sub-base and edge restraints
- Set out kerbs, edges and drainage falls to the survey drawing
- Lay block paving to pattern with correct cuts around manholes, gullies and steps
- Whacker-plate, kiln-dry-sand joint and finish to a customer-ready standard
- Install ACO drains and tie into existing rainwater where scoped
- Manage a labourer where the job scope requires it
- Photo-document each stage in the KJ portal (dig depth, sub-base, laid, finished)
- Leave the site clean and materials tidied at end of each day
Requirements
- Time-served block paver / groundworker
- Own plate compactor, block splitter, disc cutter, hand tools
- Access to a mini digger (own or hire) or comfortable with hire-and-return workflow
- Full UK driving licence, ideally with trailer (B+E) entitlement
- Public liability insurance
- CSCS card
- Smartphone for the KJ portal
How working with KJ actually works
From apply to first paid job — four honest steps
- 1
Apply in 60 secs
One tap on this page. No CV wall, no cover letter. Just your name, trade and coverage area.
- 2
Sign your KJ contract
Plain-English self-employed profit-share agreement — 25–50% of job value depending on the role. E-signed. No tie-in, no exclusivity trap.
- 3
Log in to the KJ Portal
See the jobs allocated to you: address, scope, customer notes, agreed price. Accept the ones you want, decline the ones you don't.
- 4
Do the work, get paid your share
Complete the job, mark it done in the portal. KJ invoices the customer. Your share lands on the regular payment cycle — no chasing, no unpaid quotes.
The KJ Portal is rolling out through 2026 — until then, early hires are onboarded and dispatched directly by the KJ ops team. Same profit-share, same transparency.
Why KJ, not a company job
A plumber does 3–4 jobs a day; a surveyor 2–4; a solicitor a handful of matters. The client pays hundreds — often thousands. You take home a fraction. The company keeps the rest.
