About the role
Carpet Fitter — Greater Manchester. Self-employed profit-share role, not a wage. You keep 25% of every job KJ Carpets routes to you — you turn up to priced, agreed jobs and fit. No showroom hours, no measure-and-quote weekends. You'll be sent to domestic carpet lifts and re-lays, stairs and landings, LVT and vinyl fits, gripper rod and underlay renewals, door bar trims, and light commercial fits (offices, small retail). Most jobs are half-day to full-day; some full-house fits run into a second day. Typical week is 4–6 jobs within a 30–40 minute drive of your base, dispatched via the KJ portal with room dimensions, product code, access notes and any furniture-move caveats already confirmed with the customer. Tickets range from around £120 for a stair re-fit up to £900+ for a full-house — the calculator above shows what your 25% share looks like over a week at that mix. Suits an experienced carpet fitter with own kit and van who wants a steady flow of pre-booked work instead of chasing leads. Not for someone without a full mobile kit — you need to arrive job-ready.
Responsibilities
- Uplift and dispose of existing carpet, underlay and gripper where scoped
- Prep sub-floor (sweep, minor levelling, plywood over-lay where needed)
- Fit gripper rods, underlay, carpet and door bars to a professional finish
- Fit LVT / vinyl where competent and scoped
- Move light furniture in and out of rooms as agreed in the job scope
- Leave the room clean and customer-ready — bagged offcuts, hoovered edges
- Photo-document completed rooms in the KJ portal
- Flag any scope surprises (rotten boards, hidden damp) back to KJ before proceeding
Requirements
- Time-served carpet fitter with own knee-kicker, stretcher, hot-melt iron and full hand tools
- Own van large enough for full-house rolls
- Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
- Public liability insurance (or willingness to arrange)
- Smartphone for the KJ portal
- Customer-facing manner — you're the face of KJ in the home
